Powerchip Technology plans to allocate NT$16 billion (US$519 million) for its 2011 capex, down from the NT$20 billion it is expected to spend in 2010, the Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN) has quoted a resolution by the company's board of directors as indicating. The majority of 2011 capex will be used for the DRAM maker's transition to a 45nm process.
The paper also indicated that Powerchip plans to allocate 40% of its overall capacity to foundry services. It now has the capacity to produce 130,000 12-inch wafers per month, with 80,000 units alloted for DRAM production and the remainder for its foundry business.
