TSMC will reportedly begin mass production of the next-generation Apple A9 SoC from this month onwards. The report from China says that both Samsung and TSMC have completed trial runs of the Apple A9 SoC production and are ready to begin mass production.
The Apple A9 SoC is rumored to be Apple's first quad-core mobile chipset, using further enhanced custom ARM cores developed by Apple themselves. Also, the report suggests that there will be two versions of the Apple A9 SoC - 16nm chips from TSMC, and 14nm chips from Samsung. There is no performance difference between the two chips, according to the report. Most probably, there will be no way for the regular user to discern a difference between the 16nm chip and the 14nm chip.

Apple is expected to announce their next-generation iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus in September this year. Higher-resolution display panels, 2GB of RAM, improved camera modules and bigger batteries are what the rumors say about the upcoming iPhones. |
