Notebook ODM Compal Electronics has announced consolidated revenues of NT$64.55 billion (US$2.09 billion) for May, up 4.72% on month, but down 5.08% on year and its notebook shipments for the month totaled 3.1 million units, up from 2.6 million units in April. Meanwhile, Inventec shipped 1.3 million notebooks in May, up from 1.2 million units in April.
Compal has totaled NT$324.48 billion in year-to-date revenues, up 9.72% compared with the same time last year.
Compal noted that its shipments in June are expected to enjoy a growth from May, but its brand vendor clients are still conservative about pulling in their orders. Compared to the notebook segment, the company's smart handheld device business is having a better order visibility and is expected to enjoy a double-digit percentage growth sequentially in the second quarter.
Compal has also recently reduced its notebook shipment forecast for the second quarter from a sequential growth of 5-10% to 0-5% and the adjustment could impact the company from achieving its annual shipment target.
Although Inventec's notebook shipments did not have a strong growth in May, the company's PC-related shipments are expected to grow by a double-digit percentage sequentially in the second quarter thanks to strong orders for tablets and all-in-one PC products. |
