Commenting on the IT industry's overall weaker performance in the first half, Pegatron Technology chairman TH Tung said the IT industry was slack during the first half, but many players have grown busy since early June in order to release new smartphones, tablets and notebooks, and he expects demand for IT products to return strong in the second half.
Tung noted that the third quarter is the traditional peak season of the IT industry because of back-to-school demand. Most first-tier brand vendors are expected to launch new flagship products in the quarter to attract demand which will benefit their upstream component suppliers.
With orders for the iPad mini 3 shifted to Compal Electronics, some market watchers noted that Pegatron is mainly focusing on orders for the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 currently and enjoyed strong performance in the first quarter thanks to the smartphone.
Since the next-generation iPhones reportedly will be launched in September, Pegatron has already finished capacity expansion at its plants in Kunshan, China and the new capacity will be able to join the production of the new smartphones, helping Pegatron's revenues grow strongly in the third quarter, the market watchers noted.
In addition to Pegatron, the company's subsidiaries Kinsus Interconnect Technology, an IC board maker and Casetek, a chassis maker, are both suppliers of iPhone 6 products. The two subsidiaries are currently expanding their capacities to prepare for iPhone orders for 2016, the sources said.
Pegatron has also been looking to acquire orders for MacBook products and the Apple Watch, but so far, the company is still not yet able to snatch these orders from Quanta Computer, the sources added. |
