Taiwanese manufacturer HTC could be acquired by ASUS since its chairman, Johnny Shih, is interested in buying the company. It's more likely than not that a deal will never arrive but ASUS isn't ruling out the possibility that it will acquire HTC. David Chang, Chief Financial Officer of ASUS, says, "our chairman has chatted about the topic internally."

ASUS generally does not like to grow inorganically, according to Chang, and that reduces the chance of an acquisition taking place. HTC may be open to a deal since it has struggled in the past few years and its latest flagship phone, the One M9, didn't do as well as it needed to.

Acquiring HTC would help ASUS grow even faster in the Android market. The company has already had some big phone releases, particularly in Asia.
