HTC will not consider any possible acquisition offer from Asustek Computer, and it has not contacted Asustek to discuss the possibility for such a deal, the Taiwan-based smartphone vendor has said in a statement.
HTC's statement comes nearly one week after Asustek chairman Jonney Shin revealed that Asustek was considering the possibility of acquiring HTC. HTC had declined to comment on the report previously.
HTC's former CEO Peter Chou also said that he personally was not aware of such an acquisition proposal. Chou now serves as the head of HTC's Future Development Lab.
Meanwhile, Chou also denied media reports claiming that the management team at HCT had been engaging in an internal fighting. Chou said he has been offering assistance to the management team.
However, Chou was reported to have reduced his holdings of HTC's shares. After stepping down as CEO in March, Chou sold 120,000 HTC shares in May, reducing his holdings from 4.558 million HTC shares to 4.438 million.
Chou was selling shares to raise funds to pay his annual income tax, HTC said.
HTC's share prices dropped NT$4.9 (US$0.158) or 5.86% to close at NT$78.7 on the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TSC) on June 16. |
