Apple is working on a virtual sensor that will replace the iPhone's physical Home button, according to a new report. DigiTimes reports Apple has a new touch and display driver integration chip that will allow a future iPhone to be thinner and have a smaller bezel. Users would also use the touchscreen instead of a physical Home button for all of the Home button's usual functions.

There would be a fingerprint sensor built into the virtual Home button area. Since there would no longer be a large chunk of space below the iPhone's display, the phone would end up having a nearly bezel-less display on at least 3 sides.

Reports of this technology have existed for a while but this is the first time it has been reported Apple is trying to include the tech in a new iPhone.
