Compal Electronics in early 2015 set a goal of shipping 45.2 million notebooks, 50.5 million tablets, smartphones and other smart mobile devices as well as 4.4 million LCD TVs in 2105, and although global demand for such products so far in 2015 has been short of original expectation, the ODM's shipmment goals have remained unchanged, according to company president Ray Chen.
However, the shipment goals are very challenging, Chen said. Compal has adjusted forecasts for on-year decreases in 2015 global notebook and tablet shipments from 3% to 4-6% and from 1% to 10-15% respectively, Chen said. Its growth forecast for 2015 global smartphone shipments has also been revised to 10% from the previous 15%, he said at a recent shareholders meeting.
As Windows 10 notebooks and tablets will be launched beginning August 2015, Compal will start related shipments in late July, Chen said, adding shipments in August and September will be an indicator of whether Compal can attain 2015 goals.
Compal had 23% of 2014 consolidated revenues coming from product lines other than notebooks and aims to increase the proportion to 30% in 2015, Chen noted.
In response to demand from clients, Compal will resume operation at a currently idle factory in northern Taiwan in 2015, with planned annual production capacity of 500,000 notebooks, Chen indicated. |
