Samsung's Galaxy S5 was a disaster, in terms of sales, which is why the Korean company made a lot of efforts to produce a better flagship with the Galaxy S6. For most parts, I would say that they succeeded in doing that. The Galaxy S6 looks fine, feels great in the hand, and performs admirably.
Despite all the plus points, it doesn't seem that Galaxy S6 (and Galaxy S6 Edge) sales figures are making the executives working at Samsung very happy. Samsung Electronics' IT and Mobile division will reportedly post an operating profit between $2.76 billion and $3.03 billion this quarter. In fact, if the report is accurate, Samsung could post a 24% drop in operating profits YoY (year-over-year), and poor Galaxy S6 sales are to blame for that.
Samsung hopes to win back some market share, fight off Apple's iPhone phablet, and increase their profits with the Galaxy Note 5. There's also the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, which is powered by a Snapdragon 808 chipset and is said to arrive in the near future. |
