Korea media reports are stating LG Display will invest over US$800 million to construct new small- to medium-size OLED display production facilities.
The displays would be used to meet ongoing demand for OLED panels including flexible OLED panels for use in smartphone and wearables applications, the report said.
The reports also speculate the move is likely based on Apple developments, and that LG aims to be the main supplier of OLED displays for the Apple Watch, as rumors are spreading that Apple is also considering Samsung Display for shipments in order to secure ample supply.
Meanwhile, a recent report from Digital Daily shed some new light as to what consumers can expect from the next Apple Watch, stating new display modules will allow the device to be thinner and lighter while the resolution, overall design and touch panel structure will remain the same. |
