Taiwan-based brand handset vendors and handset ODMs shipped a total of 20.82 million handsets in the second quarter of 2015, increasing 18.6% on quarter but decreasing 1.6% on year, according to the latest data from Digitimes Research.

Of the total shipments, smartphones accounted for 20.22million units, rising 26.0% on quarter and 16.5% on year.

Brand vendors Asustek Computer and Acer saw their shipments in the second quarter increase 140% and 40%, respectively, from a quarter earlier. But HTC suffered a decline in shipments, affected by weaker than expected sales of its flagship and high-end models.

Meanwhile, shipments from handset ODMs, including the Foxconn Group, Compal Electronics, Arima Communications and Wistron, showed an improvement in the second quarter, but the growth rate of new orders received by the four ODMs in thequarter were lower than expected, Digitimes Research indicated.

Foxconn ranked as the top handset maker in the second quarter in terms of shipment volume, while Asustek and HTC co-shared second place, Digitimes Research said.
