After changing its CEO in February, Microsoft has undergone some serious with 18,000 layoffs in under 5 months. To be competitive, Microsoft's CEO Satya Nadella will lay off 7,800 employees in the upcoming months, which represents about 7% of its staff.

Currently, Microsoft had 118,600 employees as of March 30. One of the reasons for the cuts is probably because the company overpaid the acquisition of Nokia, which cost the company $9.4 billion. Microsoft did confirm that the biggest part of the layoffs was related to the deal. These changes also mean a $7.6 billion writedown for the company, but we have yet to see if these changes are enough or there might be more layoffs.
