China-based white-box tablet makers are likely to cash in on Apple's planned launch of a 12.9-inch iPad to deliver similar-sized tablets to reignite shipments of white-box tablets, which have seen sluggish demand, according to sources at Taiwan-based IC suppliers.

The release of the 12.9-inch iPad coupled with seasonal effects is likely to bring an uptick in demand for tablets in the second half of 2015, indicated the sources.

To meet the emerging trend, white-box makers have begun rolling out tablets in the 10-15 inch segment to test the market, said the sources, adding that the white-box tablet suppliers have asked Taiwan-based touch controller IC makers, including ITE Tech, Silicon Integrated Systems (SiS) and ILi Technology (Ilitek) to provide related solutions supporting 10-15 touch displays.

Taiwan-based touchscreen controller IC suppliers may receive more windfall orders from the white-box sector in China in the third quarter when white-box makers begin to ramp up shipments of large-size iPad-like tablets, commented the sources.
