The global tablet applications processor (AP) market declined 6% year-over-year to reach US$733 million in the first quarter of 2015, according to Strategy Analytics.
Apple, Qualcomm, Intel, MediaTek and Samsung LSI captured the top-five revenue share rankings in the tablet AP market in the first quarter of 2015, said Strategy Analytics. Apple led the tablet AP market with 28% revenue share, followed by Qualcomm with 19% revenue share and Intel with 16% revenue share.
Intel maintained its top spot in the non-Apple tablet AP market in unit terms in the first quarter of 2015, said Sravan Kundojjala, associate director for Strategy Analytics. Android-based tablets accounted for over 70% of Intel's total tablet AP shipments during the quarter.
Strategy Analytics expects Intel's Atom X3 cellular tablet chip product line to help Intel maintain its momentum in the tablet AP market.
Meanwhile, baseband-integrated tablet AP shipments accounted for over one-fourth of total tablet AP shipments in the first quarter of 2015, helped by strong push from Qualcomm, MediaTek and Spreadtrum, noted Stuart Robinson, executive director of Strategy Analytics' handset component technologies service. "We expect continued momentum for integrated APs as Intel, Rockchip and others join the bandwagon," Robinson continued. |
