LG Display was the largest supplier of TV panels to the China market in the first half of 2015, holding a 22% share, according to Sigmaintell Consulting.
China Star Optoelectronics Technology (CSOT) came in second with a 21% share followed by Innolux with an 18% share. Innolux previously held the top spot but saw its share begin to drop in the fourth quarter of 2014, which the consulting firm believes is due to a lack of attractive products for China vendors.
The firm added that LG bumped up its customer support and quality in addition to its customer demand response time in order to compete against China makers that are unleashing new capacity on 8.5G facilities.
LG Display is expected to ship 55 million TV panels in 2015, with 40% going to parent company LG Electronics and 20% to the top-six China TV vendors. LG aims to secure orders from China vendors through niche products such as 43- and 49-inch units in addition to low-priced WRGB Ultra HD (4K) products, the firm said, adding that LG will increase 60-inch TV production by the end of 2015.
CSOT meanwhile will ship 25 million LCD TV panels in 2015, with about 30% of supply going to TCL, 20% to other China TV vendors, and 25% to Samsung Electronics. The firm also said Innolux will ship 50 million TV panels in 2015, with about 20% of supply going to China TV vendors and 20% to Samsung. |
