Dell has introduced a new Chromebook that's a little more upscale than existing Chrome OS laptops. The Chromebook 13 doesn't use a bunch of plastic like other Chromebooks and instead offers a carbon fiber cover, magnesium alloy palm rest, and an aluminum base.

The Chromebook 13 is still relatively cheap with a starting price of $400. Even though it is a premium device compared to other Chromebooks, the Chromebook 13's design isn't great. Its specs aren't overly impressive and yet it weighs more than the 13-inch Apple MacBook Air.

Two Chromebook 13 models exist, one that has a touchscreen with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and one that has a non-touchscreen display with a matte screen. Both use 13.3-inch 1920 x 1080 displays.

A few different processors are available for the Chromebook 13. Customers can get a fifth-generation 1.5 GHz Intel Celeron processor, 2.0GHz Intel Core i3 processor, or a 2.9GHz Intel Core i5 chip. All models come with 2 GB, 4 GB, or 8 GB of RAM and 16 GB or 32 GB of internal solid-state storage.

Dell says the Chromebook 13's battery will last up to 12 hours.

The Chromebook 13 will be available on September 13 in the US and Canada.
