As expected before, Samsung has unveiled two new high-end smartphones during the Unpacked event. The Galaxy Note5 and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus are now official, but there is some bad news regarding the availability. The Galaxy Note5 won't launch this year in Europe.

Instead, the company will focus on the US and Asian markets. Both smartphones will go on pre-order tomorrow with actual availability on August 21 from all major US carriers. Recent rumours were true regarding the specifications and there are no surprises.

Galaxy S6 Edge Plus

Compared to the standard Galaxy S6 Edge, the Plus variant brings a bigger display, more RAM and a larger battery. There is a new 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display with the same Quad HD resolution, the same Exynos 7420 chipset, but with 4 GB of RAM. The 2,600 mAh battery has been replaced with a 3,000 mAh.

The rest of the specs are the same, including a 16 MP snapper with OIS and f/1.9 aperture, a 5 MP front shooter with f/1.9 aperture, 4G LTE Cat.9, Wi-Fi ac, Bluetooth 4.2 with ANT+, NFC, GPS and support for Samsung Pay.

Galaxy Note5

The official name of Samsung's flagship phablet has been slightly changed and is now Galaxy Note5. The phone looks similar to other flagship Samsung devices, featuring a metal unibody.

It has the same 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display with Quad HD resolution, but the bezels are narrower and the overall size is almost a millimeter thinner than the Galaxy S6. Specifications are almost the same. Under the hood, it is powered by the Exynos 7420 chipset, 4 GB of RAM, up to 64 GB of UFS 2.0 storage (no 128 GB model) with no microSD card slot and a 3,000 mAh battery.

The camera department is also the same as the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, including a 16 MP rear and a 5 MP front camera. Another improvement is the Ultra High-Quality Audio, which promises better sound.
