Sony has announced a follow-up to its 2014 SmartBand, the SmartBand 2. This new wearable includes some additional features and a good price that'll make it competitive in the market. While both the Smartband and Smartband 2 includes fitness tracking features, the latter offers a heart rate sensor and improved accelerometer.

The design of the fitness tracker hasn't dramatically changed, but Sony has switched to using a metal clip on the band rather than a press-stud setup.

Sony's Lifelog app is used on mobile devices to connect with the Smartband 2. The watch will now work with Android 4.4 and up, as well as iOS 8.2 and up.

The Smartband 2 can detect when you begin sleeping and it uses its sensors to wake you up during a light sleep phase, potentially reducing grogginess.

This tracker is going on sale in 60 countries next month and it will cost €120 ($133).
