Asustek computer aims to ship 40 million smartphones globally in 2016, becoming one of the world's 10 largest vendors, according to company CEO Jerry Shen.

Excluding the China market, 2016 target shipments are 30 million smartphones, Shen said.

Asustek shipped eight million ZenFone-series smartphones in the first half of 2015 and expects to ship six million in the third quarter. Asustek is expected to ship 21 million smartphones in 2015, according to local market analysts.

Asustek is expected to ship 4-5 million ZenFone smartphones in Indonesia in 2015, its second-largest market, the sources said. In addition, Asustek is expected to ship more than one million smartphones in India, Taiwan, Russia, Malaysia and Brazil each in 2015, the sources indicated.
