Asustek Computer plans to launch 6-7 models of its ZenFone-series products in 2016 with 5.5-inch displays as the mainstream, according to company CEO Jerry Shen.
The 2016 ZenFone family will include one premium ZenFone Deluxe, two models of the mainstream ZenFone Laser, one ZenFone Selfie and ZenFone Max, and one or two ZenFone Go models, Shen noted.
Additionally, Asustek's PadFone series is likely to be incorporated into the ZenFone Deluxe line, Shen added.
For the latter half of 2015 and the first half of 2016, Asustek plans to unveil its ZenFone Zoom and ZenFone Max at the upcoming IFA Berlin 2015. The ZenFone Zoom will feature a 3x optical zoom, while the ZenFone Max will come with a 5,000mAh battery, Shen revealed.
While Samsung Electronics and Huawei are developing smartphone-use processors in-house, Asustek does not have a production scale sufficient enough to support the development of processors of its own, Shen said, adding that Asustek is currently cooperating smoothly with a number of CPU suppliers.
Asustek currently buys CPUs from Intel, Qualcomm and MediaTek. However, China-based Spreadtrum Communications and HiSilicon Technologies have also approached Asustek seeking to land CPU orders, Shen noted.
Asustek is expected to ship over 21 million smartphones in 2015 and looks to ship 30-40 million units in 2016, Shen estimated. |
