Notebook ODM Inventec, in line with clients' move to tap the ASEAN market, plans to set up a factory in Indonesia or the Philippines in 2016, according to company chairman Richard Lee.

Indonesia has a huge labor force while the Philippines' young people account for a large proportion of its population, Lee said. Inventec has surveyed target locations in the two countries and will set up a factory in one of them, with the factory to mainly produce notebooks and mobile devices, Lee indicated.

To support China-based Xiaomi Technology's marketing of smartphones in the India market, Inventec has set up a factory in India and has begun initial production.

Inventec originally aimed to ship 100 million notebooks, desktops, smartphones and servers in 2015 but has lowered the target shipments to 90 million units due to possible decreases in global demand arising from the global stock market slumps, Lee indicated.
