Samsung partly owes its Apple A9 chip contract, which is shared with TSMC, to its use of insiders. Liang Mong-song, a former TSMC executive, has been found guilty of sharing processor secrets with Samsung that ended up helping the company produce a 14/16nm FinFET processor before TSMC.
The processors initially created by both companies were almost the same and that appears to be due to Samsung's use of Liang Mong-song's information.
After he leaked inside information to Samsung, Liang left his executive position at TSMC and began working at a Samsung-sponsored university in South Korea. He is now the Chief Technology Officer of Samsung's System LSI group. A court ruling has blocked Liang from working with Samsung any more until December 31, 2015. |
