Sony (Japan) is reportedly planning to move its manufacturing of Xperia phones to India and it will use factories in the country to also make budget models for the local market. The Economic Times reports Sony will release several phones under $150 in India by the end of this year. Sony will be competing with Micromax and Intex, two Indian companies, that make phones priced between $50 and $200.
By moving its manufacturing of phones to India, Sony can take advantage of the Make In India offer. That offer from the Indian government provides companies with tax benefits.
Sony is working with Foxconn (Taiwan) to move its manufacturing.
