Amazon has a new Fire TV set-top box on the way, according to an FCC listing. Dave Katz, a blogger, spotted the listing which appears to be for a Fire TV, not a Fire TV Stick. Since the original Fire TV is already no longer in stock, a new one is likely on the way and should be announced shortly.
This filing doesn't outright say it is for a Fire TV, but the 2ADU5-2902 is an "HDMI Digital Media Receiver" that supports 802.11ac WiFi and Bluetooth 4.1. The device also supports microSD. Amazon often uses shell companies when submitting paperwork like this and the "company" for this filing is Quill Royal LLC. There's no evidence Quill Royal exists and its street address is just a PO Box in Boise, Idaho.
Other Fire TV leaks have said the device will have a MediaTek MT8173 quad-core processor, PowerVR GX6250 graphics, 1.5 GB of RAM, 8 GB of storage, and an Android 5.1-based version of Fire OS. |
