Asustek Computer has announced consolidated revenues of NT$40.83 billion (US$1.25 billion) for August, up 18% on month, but down 3.2% on year. Combined consolidated revenues for January-August totaled NT$295.67 billion , down by 0.7% on year.
Asustek pointed out that the PC industry has started improving recently and its PC inventory in Europe and Asia Pacific channels has already returned to healthy levels. With consumers and its channel partners giving positive feedbacks about Windows 10 recently, the company expects a replacement trend to start emerging.
However, with several countries' currencies continuing to devaluate, Asustek is taking measures such as raising product prices, launching new products and improving the product mix, to maintain its gross margins.
For emerging markets such as Southeast Asia, Russia and Brazil, Asustek is also looking to raise the shipment proportion of the high-end notebook models to maintain its profits from these areas.
Asustek originally expected its notebook shipments to reach 4.8 million units in the third quarter, but the final volume may be 1-5% less. Asustek's ZenFone smartphone series continues to see strong demand and is not affected much by the exchange rate issue and therefore the shipments are expected to reach Asustek's original target.
For third-quarter 2015, Asustek expects to ship 600,000 desktop PCs, six million smartphones and 1.8 million tablets. Having shipped eight million smartphones in the first half of th eyear, Asustek is expected to ship at least 21 million smartphones in 2015. |
