LG Display is bumping up efforts to increase cooperation with vendors in Greater China, including capacity expansion in China and developing more higher-end products.

According to various Korea media reports, LG will increase capacity at Guangzhou-based facilities from 90,000 substrates a month to 120,000 in mid-2016 to meet ongoing demand from China vendors. The fab will supply large-size TV panels primarily in the 40- and 50-inch segments with resolution ranging from Ful HD to Ultra HD (4K).

Skyworth, Konka and other top TV brands in China receive supply from LG and are expected to remain some of the panel supplier's top customers in 2016. Despite rising LTPS capacity in China and price wars emerging in the panel industry, LG also believes its developments in China help it save on tariff and logistics costs in order to keep pricing at a competitive level.

Market observers have in fact attributed these moves to LG's customer share, with China TV vendors now accounting for 30% of the display makers' overall TV panel shipments in July 2015, up from 18% a year earlier.

Meanwhile, LG is pushing forth with OLED TV panel developments, which many industry watchers attribute to the company's concerns over rising LCD capacity in China.
