Taiwan-based IC design house ASMedia Technology has targeted to ship 10 million USB 3.0 host controller chips in 2011. It is currently waiting for a USB-IF certification for its devices, according to industry sources.
Two other Taiwan-based IC designers VIA Labs and Etron Technology have also delivered their USB 3.0 host controller chips to USB-IF for verification, the sources added.
US-based IC design house Fresco Logic has recently obtained USB-IF certification for its USB. 3.0 host controllers and the company also aims to ship over 10 million controller chips in 2011, the sources indicated.
Fresco, ASMedia, VIA Labs and Etron will try to slice market share from Renesas Electronics, which is expected to take up a 50% share of the global USB 3.0 host controller market in 2011, the sources commented.
