Currently, the best SoC for smartphones and tablets is Exynos 7420 and is manufactured by Samsung. Closely behind is the Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810, while other manufacturers hope to join the battle with their next-gen chipsets that are rumoured to come out very soon.
The two companies that have promising chipsets are Huawei and MediaTek, with Kirin 950 and Helio X20, respectively. The former is now rumoured to be announced next month. It will be made using TSMC's 16nm process and it uses the big.LITTLE architecture, which features four Cortex-A72 cores and four Cortex-A 53 cores, paired with mali-T880 GPU. Maximum clock speed is 2.4 GHz and the chip supports LPDDR4 dual channel RAM, dual cameras (up to 42 MP), Cat 10 LTE and a Tensilica Hi-Fi 4 independent audio DSP is on board.
Performance-wise, the chipset will be the most powerful solution when it comes out. It recently toped the Geekbench database, scoring 1,906 in single-core and 6,096 in multi-core tests. |
