Amazon has launched a new Fire TV that includes 4K video and the Alexa digital assistant. For no additional cost, the Fire TV comes with a 64-bit quad-core processor, dedicated GPU, and a new codec called High Efficiency Video Coding that helps the system stream content at a higher resolution without buffering.

The amount of 4K content available on the Fire TV is still limited and consumers must have a 4K TV if they want to actually view content at that resolution.

Alexa on the Fire TV isn't able to do as much as it can on the Echo. The assistant can currently just help people discover content, but it will receive more features by early 2016.

At some point, Amazon will let people order items from the eCommerce site from their TV.

This new Fire TV costs $100. A $40 Fire TV Stick and $140 gaming version of the Fire TV were also unveiled.

Preorders are being accepted right now and the Fire TV will be released on October 5.
