Apple says the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus have broken the early sales record set by the iPhone 6 last year. The new phones saw 13 million unit sales during their first weekend on the market, compared to 10 million for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. The additional sales may have partly come from Apple providing two weeks of preorder time instead of one week.

These iPhones have also been released in China on launch day, something that wasn't true for previous generations. That market is large enough to have contributed thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of orders.

Apple says the phones will become available on October 9 in Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Greenland, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Isle of Man, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Maldives, Mexico, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and Taiwan.

Come the end of 2015, the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus will be available in more than 130 countries.
