Acer and Toshiba have recently finished their request for the quotation (RFQ) process for notebook orders for 2016 and Acer's orders for 15-inch notebooks, which account for the largest volume, are mostly placed with Compel Electronics, while the rest is given to Quanta Computer. Toshiba's notebook orders are split between Quanta and Pegatron Technology, while the vendor's current partners Compal and Inventec have not received any orders, according to industry sources.
Related ODMs declined to comment on their orders or clients.
Quanta is currently talking with Acer about the orders for high-end 15-inch models, the sources said.
Top-2 ODMs Quanta and Compal together contributed over 70% of the top-4 notebook ODMs' combined shipments in the first three quarters of 2015, and the proportion is likely to grow higher in 2016.
Quanta and Compal both ship over 40 million notebooks a year, while Wistron, Inventec and Pegatron's annual shipments are less than 20 million units each.
As for other vendors, Lenovo is likely to continue placing its orders with Compal and Wistron; HP will give its consumer notebook orders to Quanta and enterprise model orders to Inventec, according to the sources. Dell is mainly partnering with Compal and Wistron. Apple and Asustek Computer design their products in-house and outsource the production to Quanta and Pegatron, respectively. |
