HTC is expected to unveil its new mid-range smartphone, the HTC One A9, at online events to be held in New York, London and New Delhi on October 21. The A9 will come with a 5-inch AMOLED display, Qualcomm 8-core Snapdragon 617 CPU and 13-megapixel rear camera, and support fingerprint identification technology.

HTC's sales of its HTC One M9-series products have been slower than expected in the first three quarters of 2015, resulting a net loss of NT$12.15 million (US$374 million) or NT$14.68 per share during the nine-month period.

The release of the HTC One A9 is expected to help HTC's overall smartphone shipments in the fourth quarter due to the high price/performance ratio of the new model, according to industry sources.

However, since the fourth quarter is traditionally a peak season for smartphone sales, the HTC One A9 will meet strong competition from the offerings from Apple, Samsung Electronics and Sony Mobile Communications, indicated the sources.
