Toshiba is going to sell its image sensor business to Sony for $165 million. As part of its restructuring plan, Toshiba is getting rid of the sensor business in an attempt to cut costs and bring in some money. Toshiba has been overstating its earnings for years to the tune of $1.3 billion and the discovery of that financial trickery prompted the restructure.
With this sale, Toshiba will completely remove itself from the image sensor business and sell its plant in Oita, Japan.
The image sensor division is part of Toshiba's LSI semiconductor business and Toshiba is still discussing what to do with the rest of that business.
The sale is expected to be finalized shortly. |
