LG Display will ship approximately 400,000-500,000 OLED TV panels in 2015 and over one million in 2016 as pricing drops as a result of increased yields, according to Korea-based Digital Daily.

However, the shipment target is less than the originally 600,000 estimated shipments in 2015 and 1.5 million in 2016 due to high costs that have prevented vendors from promoting the technology as part of their mainstream lineups.

OLED TV panels are dropping in costs due to reduced material costs but are still comparatively much higher than Ultra HD (4K) TV panels, which most vendors are incorporating into their high-end units in 2015.

Most market observers believe OLED TVs will not become mainstream until 2017 based on cost factors and that China will be one of the biggest markets for the technology.
