The recent appreciation of the NT dollar may result in significant foreign-exchange losses for DRAM module houses including Adata Technology and Transcend Information, according to industry sources.
The sources estimated that for every one-dollar appreciation in the NT dollar, Taiwan-based DRAM module makers would suffer a loss of between NT$50 million and NT$60 million in eroded total profits. The sources urged Taiwan's central bank to continue acting to keep the NT dollar above NT$30 against the US dollar.
Adata shares closed down 1.7% at NT$50.60 on December 14, while Transcend was flat at NT$78.30
