Sales of Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 computers will end in a year. Microsoft wants all PC makers to cease sales of PCs running either operating system by October 31, 2016, about 15 months after Windows 10 became available. Microsoft normally waits about two years before having PC makers end sales of units with older versions of Windows.
It has been confirmed Dell, HP, Lenovo, and other OEMs will stop shipping new PCs with either OS by next October.
As it tries to get Windows 10 onto 1 billion active devices, Microsoft is pushing Windows 10 on existing users and new buyers. |
