Xiaomi Technology has unveiled its new smartphone, the Redmi Note 2, as well as updates to its MIUI 7 platform in Kuala Lumpur, a product event which aims to boost its overseas sales.

The Redmi Note 2 features a 5.5-inch Full HD display, MediaTek's Helio X octa-core 2.0 GHz processor, 13-megapixel rear camera, 5-megepixel front-facing camera and 2GB RAM.

Xiaomi has shipped nearly 25 million units of its Redmi Note series products, the China-based vendor said during the product presentation.

The Redmi Note 2, which is manufactured by Foxconn Electronics, will also be available in Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

The model is expected to be available in Taiwan in the second half of November priced at NT$4,999 (US$154), according to sources at retail channels in Taiwan.
