Notebook ODMs Compal Electronics and Wistron saw their October notebook shipments drop from a month ago with Compal shipping three million units, down 1.5 million units from September and Wistron shipping 1.6 million units, down 500,000 units.

Compal noted that the sharp notebook shipment decline was the main reason for its 20% on-month revenue drop in October while its non-notebook product lines were rather stable.

Compal shipped a total of 32.4 million notebooks in the first 10 months of 2015, down 2.6 million units from the same period a year ago. Some market watchers are concerned that Compal's 2015 notebook shipments may drop by a single-digit percentage from 2014.

As for Wistron, the company expects its fourth-quarter notebook shipments to slump from the third quarter. Although its November shipments are expected to be higher than those in October, the ODM currently still has weak visibility for December.
