According to statistics from the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) in Korea, Samsung Group employees decreased by 5,000 over the last year to a total of 212,331, with half of cuts coming from Samsung Display and Samsung Electronics.
The group has been primarily restructuring its sales team and has laid off approximately 5,000 employees over a year as of September 2015, bringing the total amount down from 217,685 in 2014.
Samsung Electronics now has a total of 98,577 employees and Samsung Display 25,599, the report said, adding that cuts were also due to slowdowns in Samsung's handset business.
The report also noted that workforces at Samsung Engineering, Samsung Card and Samsung Securities are also declining. |
