Kazuo Hirai, CEO of Sony, has confirmed the company does not intend to make any smartphone processors. During an interview, Hirai responded to some rumors about in-house chip production by denying them and stating mobile processor creation is not a focus for Sony. The company is instead focused on things like feature additions, UI improvements, and possible price reductions.
Sony has been trying to move more things in-house, thereby strengthening its core structure, but mobile processors would be a big step for the company.
Hirai admitted in the interview that Sony has lost a lot of its brand awareness in the past decade and it will need to increase the use of logos to bring that awareness back. |
