As promised, Xiaomi has announced a successor to the Redmi Note 2 today in China. The new Redmi Note 3 is better in almost every aspect over its predecessor. It is priced at RMB 899 ($140) and RMB 1,099 ($170) for the 16 and 32 GB model, respectively.

Three color options are available, including silver, gold, and gray. The metal chassis has curved edges and measures only 8.65 mm at its thickest point, and weighs 164g. It also has a fingerprint scanner that unlocks the phone in just 0.3 seconds.

The innards have been improved. The 5.5-inch 1080p display is now powered by MediaTek Helio X10 processor, 2 GB RAM and 16 GB storage, or 3 GB RAM and 32 GB storage depending upon the model. The rest of the specs include a 4,000 mAh battery, a 13-megapixel rear camera with phase detection autofocus, 4G dual-SIM, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, and MIUI 7.
