Acer has sent out RFO (request for quotation) for gaming notebooks to be launched in 2016, signaling that Acer will strengthen marketing of the product line by increasing shipment volumes and launching more models, according to Taiwan-based supply chain makers.

The RFQ is expected to be sent to main Taiwan-based notebook ODMs, including Quanta Computer, Compal Electronics, Wistron and Pegatron, the sources said.

Acer entered the gaming notebook market with the Predator brand in 2015, focusing on high product quality to build brand awareness rather than appeal by price. Based on the RFQ, Acer plans to launch large-screen gaming notebooks, 18-inch models for example, and this is a means of winning reputation for Predator, the sources indicated.

Acer's global notebook vendor ranking has fallen to fifth, mainly because the company prefers higher profitability to larger shipments for maintaining market share, the sources said.
