Shipments of smartphones in India totaled 28.3 million units in the third quarter of 2015, up 21.4% from 23.3 million units shipped for the same period of a year earlier, according to IDC.
In the third quarter, the 4G enabled devices have witnessed almost a three-fold increase in unit shipments over the previous quarter, IDC noted.
Samsung continued to lead the Indian smartphone market with 13.1% sequential shipment growth in the third quarter, and also overtook Lenovo as the top 4G vendor.
Micromax retained the second position in the third quarter with a 6.4% sequential growth. The vendor's YU Phones have been performing well and are leading contributors to Micromax's 4G portfolio, IDC said.
Intex took the third position with a 9.4% shipment growth. The vendor has witnessed sharp rise in shipments in sub-US$50 models, particularly entry-level 3G products.
Lenovo moved up to fourth place with a 9.5% market share for the quarter, while Lava slipped to fifth place as its shipments dropped 24.9% sequentially in the quarter. |
