MediaTek is considering to including China-based Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC) as one of its wafer foundry partners, according to a Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN) report.

MediaTek COO Jeffrey Ju recently revealed that his company is currently in talks with SMIC for the establishment of mutual cooperation, while talking with reporters from China, EDN said.

MediaTek refrained to comment on foundry partners but confirmed that its established policy is to build a cooperation relationship with SMIC, said the paper.

MediaTek is likely to switch part of its 28nm orders to SMIC in the near future, affecting business at Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) and United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC), commented the paper.
