Amazon has teamed up with Baidu, a web company in China, to bring the Fire tablet to China. The cheap tablet comes with some pre-loaded Baidu apps, among which are a search engine and video player. In the press release for the tablet's launch in China, it wasn't mentioned if Baidu will actively promote the device or not.
Baidu could see a slight boost for its search engine by having it loaded onto the tablet by default, but the Fire tablet is unlikely to be a top device in China. For the most part, Chinese consumers prefer devices that are good for gaming and video, yet the Fire tablet is promoted as great for reading.
The tablet will be sold for $77 (500 RMB), which is a little more than it goes for in the United States and Europe. |
