Apple may be switching from LCD to AMOLED, but it is not going to make the transition for another couple years. A new report claims Japan Display will begin making OLED displays for the iPhone in 2018, which suggests the upcoming iPhone 7 will still use LCD.
This report is accompanied by others that have suggested LG's planned increase in OLED production may be partially connected to future iPhones.
Nikkan (Japan) reports Japan Display will open an OLED screen production line in 2016 and a prototype line could be operational by spring 2016. Mass production of those screens will then coincide with a future iPhone release. |
