Toshiba is considering ending its TV business due to financial struggles and will at least stop TV production abroad at its Indonesia-based facilities, according to a new media report from Japan-based Asahi Shimbum.

The company is also likely to sell the Indonesia-based plant to Compal to improve its forecast for 2016 after continuing to incur losses in the TV segment. Recent reports from the newspaper also stated a joint venture plant in Egypt will be sold to Egypt-based manufacturer El Araby.

The report noted Toshiba intends to ask several hundred employees to take early retirement from its home appliances operations that cover TVs, personal computers and white appliances, such as refrigerators and washing machines.

Other media reports in Japan meanwhile have stated Toshiba is considering to either completely end its white electronics business or merge with other ventures.
