Recently, Apple has been rumoured to be working on its own mobile GPU that could replace the Imagination's PowerVR graphic units. Apple is not the only company working on custom GPU, as Samsung is also doing the same to lower the cost of its chipsets.
From previously leaked Samsung roadmap, the future Exynos chipsets will employ Heterogeneous System Architecture (HSA), meaning the CPU and GPU will be located on the same bus, sharing the same tasks and memory. The second generation HSA chipsets were rumoured to use Samsung's own GPUs, but allegedly there has been a few problems, which caused delays. Apparently Samsung will have hard times to meet the 2017 launch, but what are the problems is unknown at the moment. |
