China has seen robust 4G smartphone demand during 2015, and demand for 4G devices in India, Southeast Asia, Latin America and the Middle East is set to rise in 2016 driving MediaTek's performance, according to Ching-Jiang Hsieh, president for the smartphone chip provider.
The global handset market still has room to grow, said Hsieh, adding that the market is expected to increase about 10% in 2016.
With its complete portfolio of handset solutions, MediaTek will continue to see its revenues, shipments and market share grow steadily in 2016, Hsieh indicated.
As for MediaTek's profit outlook in 2016, Hsieh continued, the company must continue to work hard, as profitability hinges on many factors, such as the success of new products and the capability of lowering costs.
MediaTek's solutions for consumer electronics, optical storage and TV applications still yield high margins, while the short-term gross margin outlook of the company's handset products is less favorable, Hsieh said. But overall, MediaTek should be able to maintain its profitability level in 2016, Hsieh noted.
In addition, Hsieh regarded MediaTek's current COOs - Jeffrey Ju and Joe Chen - as likely candidates for the next company president. Ju and Chen could both lead the company into the next stage of growth, Hsieh said. |
