It is expected that the successor to the Apple's next-gen iPhone will feature an OLED display. Due to the expected big demands, Apple has decided to contact both LG and Samsung for the supply of organic light emitting diode (OLED) screens for Apple iPhone 7.
Another reason for contacting both suppliers is due to unknown yields. LG plans to produce its share of the OLED iPhone displays using the sixth-generation production technique that has yet to be tested. LG will also be the main supplier, as Samsung allegedly received 30% fewer orders than LG. The Cupertino company plants to switch from LCD to OLED panels in 2018. |
